Ballet:
This provides the foundation for all good dance technique. Children wishing to pursue a professional career in dance would need to attend ballet class. It gives strength, good posture and poise whilst creating confidence and develops quality of body lines through turnout and extension. In younger children the basics of classical technique are learned using simple steps including the use of mime and characterisation.
Tap:
Tap is excellent for developing rhythm and co-ordination. It develops muscle strength in the core abdominal muscles and legs whilst encouraging flexibility in the ankle joint. Once the steps are learnt, tap is danced to many different styles of music and the sound the tap shoes make is always one of pure joy for the children.
Jazz:
Funky and physical. Many different movements and styles are covered within the jazz syllabus. Children will experience expansion, relaxation, contraction, isolations, shapes, mood and expression. It develops physical strength and the versatility all professional dancers require. One lesson may be soft, lyrical and expressive, the next might be fast and funky.
Theatre Craft:
The art of Musical Theatre dance. From high kicks and turns to characterisation in a variety of styles, students experience all that is required to dance on stage in live musical theatre.
Generally:-
Along with the above subjects, on occasions when preparing for our bi-annual pantomime, all students get the opportunity to try out different styles of dance such as -
Song and Dance, Contemporary Dance, Street/Hip Hop dance.
Also included with this is the chance to do some drama.
Opportunities to dance using apparatus is also given, examples of this are the use of pom poms, ribbons, scarves, hats, maracas, hoops, tambourines etc etc.
New starters of any age in any dance style are always welcome at any time during the year.
